Community Champions

For 50 years, Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) has been delivering nutritious meals to home-bound older adults and adults with disabilities through our Meals on Wheels program. Throughout this time, we have ensured that the older adults in our communities have not gone hungry. But our meal deliveries provide so much more than just nutritious food. They are a wellness check and a friendly smile that give peace of mind to our clients and their families.

Every March, Southern Maine Agency on Aging proudly participates in March for Meals. This national campaign raises awareness and garners the community support needed for organizations like SMAA to continue addressing food insecurity, combat social isolation, enable independence, and improve the well-being of older adults and adults with disabilities in our communities.

In 2023, we had Community Champions from all over York and Cumberland counties. "My group enjoyed the experience and the visits were really such a great example of how meaningful the Meals on Wheels program is," commented Karen Winton, Deputy Director at the Community Development Department with the Town of Kennebunk. "Everyone was so grateful and appreciative."
