For nearly 50 years, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) has been fostering connections that make it possible for older adults and their caregivers to live to their fullest potential.
Since the start of the pandemic, the need for many of SMAA’s services has increased dramatically. Last year, we served more clients than any previous year; nearly 4,000 more clients than we had served only two years before. Our Meals on Wheels program has 30% more clients than it did two years ago.
Our friendly volunteers and dedicated staff work tirelessly to meet the needs of older adults in our communities by providing services such as Meals on Wheels, Medicare counseling, Adult Day Center programming, and evidence-based falls prevention and wellness programs. Our Resource Specialists connect those in need with information and support about housing and fuel assistance, and our Phone Pal volunteers offer the social connection we miss during the long Maine winters.
The impact of social isolation, the threat of senior hunger, and the need for wellness activities continue to fuel the demand for SMAA’s services. Your support will go directly towards helping older and disabled adults stay safe and healthy at home, and remain connected to essential services, resources, and support.

Since our inception, SMAA has been blessed with loyal donors who have chosen to honor our agency by making a gift in the form of an annuity or a trust arrangement or by providing for SMAA in their will or estate plan. This includes donors who name us as a beneficiary of a retirement account or insurance policy.
We encourage donors who have made a provision for SMAA in their estate plans to share with us their intentions. Providing this information makes it possible for our staff to discuss with donors how they would like their eventual gift to be directed, to maximize the impact of the gift for the Agency.
Many corporations offer matching gift programs for their employees and also retirees. Most programs match dollar for dollar but there are some companies that match 2:1 and even 3:1. Contact your human resources office for a matching gift form and return the completed form to:
