Relief checks will be mailed out to most Maine residents starting in June. To be eligible, you must be a full time resident and file a 2021 Maine income tax return by October 31, 2022 (and not be a dependent of another person). If you already filed your taxes, you do not need to do anything.
If you do not usually file a tax return, you will have to file to receive the payment. AARP TaxAide and CA$H Maine are working to provide free ME tax preparation services so people who do not normally file their taxes can file them this year to be eligible for the relief check. People who don't have a filing requirement will not owe any money by filing.

In the Greater Portland area, AARP TaxAide will offer free walk-in service (no appointments) at:
When visiting one of AARP Walk in events, taxpayers must bring their Social Security card, a picture ID, their Social Security benefits statement (SSA-1099) and all other income-related tax documents for tax year 2021. They should also bring information on rents or property taxes paid during the calendar year 2021.
