Caregiving can begin with small things: checking in on a parent, driving a spouse to appointments, or helping a neighbor with groceries. Over time, those small things can become a larger responsibility. You may find yourself making decisions you never expected to face, wondering where to turn, or putting your own needs aside.
You deserve support, too.
On Friday, October 23, Southern Maine Agency on Aging and the Maine Trust for Local News will host the Maine Family Caregiver Summit at Hannaford Hall, Abromson Center, at USM in Portland.
The Family Caregiver Conference & Resource Expo begins at noon and is free and open to the public. Whether you’re caring for someone now or planning ahead, join us to learn from experts and fellow caregivers, meet local service providers, and explore resources for dementia care, legal and financial planning, and everyday support.
This is time to ask your questions, make connections, and think about what would help you and the person you care for.
Need support so you can attend? We will offer limited on-site, activity-based respite for up to 10 adults for a maximum of three hours. Advance registration and a phone screening are required, and caregivers must remain on the premises. Visit the event page for eligibility and support details.
The summit also includes an Employer Leadership Forum at 7:45 a.m., exploring how workplaces can support employees who care for loved ones.
You spend so much time thinking about what someone else needs. We hope you’ll join us for a day that makes room for your needs, too.
