Caregiver resources

Love is powerful.
So is support.

You know the person you care about: how they take their coffee, what makes them laugh, when something feels a little off. But you may not know where to find help at home or how to plan for what comes next. AgeMaine is here to listen, talk through your questions, and help you find support for both of you.

Caregiver support groups

Talking with someone who understands can help. Our regularly scheduled support groups meet online, at our offices, and in the community, giving caregivers a place to share what’s on their minds and learn from one another.

We also support kinship families: grandparents and other relatives age 55 and older who are raising minor children in place of their biological parents.

Savvy Caregiver: Learning to care for someone with dementia

When someone you care about is living with dementia, you may find yourself figuring out new ways to communicate or respond to changes in their behavior. Savvy Caregiver offers practical tools to help you feel more confident and look after your own needs, too.

This statewide educational program is for family members and friends caring for someone with dementia. It meets for two hours a week for six weeks, providing 12 hours of training to help you:

  • Understand dementia and how it can affect personality and behavior.

  • Communicate with the person you care about in ways that help everyday moments go more smoothly.

  • Care for yourself and find ways to reduce stress.
