The Maine Legislature is currently considering The Older Mainers Act, LD 814, which funds programs and services provided by Maine’s Agencies on Aging. These programs help older adults stay safe, connected, and independent at home.

This bill has unanimous support from the Health and Human Services Committee and is now awaiting funding on the Appropriations table. Your outreach to legislators can help ensure these essential programs are fully funded.

Programs and Services Supported by LD 814:

  • Meals on Wheels and other nutrition programs
  • Friendly visitor and phone support programs to reduce social isolation
  • Case management, information, and referral services
  • Support for caregivers and other services that prevent crises

Here’s one example of the impact of these programs:

“I recently connected a Meals on Wheels client living in rural Maine with a Phone Pal volunteer. They said, ‘It would be very difficult to continue living alone without the meal delivery and social support I receive.’”
