Dear Friends,

Do you know where your next meal will come from? It is something many of us take for granted every day.

When is the last time you were truly hungry? Sadly, ONE out of EVERY THREE Maine seniors faces hunger or the threat of hunger due to food insecurity.

It is the time of year again when we begin asking ourselves, what am I thankful for? Is it time spent with family and friends, health, prosperity? For the homebound individuals served by the Southern Maine Agency on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program, the answer may simply be “the peace of mind of knowing when my next meal will arrive”, or “regular visits from a caring volunteer”.

YOU can give them many reasons to feel grateful this holiday season by making a donation to the Meals on Wheels program today.

As the days get shorter and colder, and we head into the holiday season, I ask you to think about your older friends, family, and neighbors. Remember that many don’t have regular access to transportation; they may be living alone without ANY regular socialization; or they could be making the tough decision between paying for heat, their life-saving medication, or a meal.

Please make your gift today so that no senior goes hungry tomorrow. You may make your gift securely online or you may mail your gift to:

Southern Maine Agency on Aging
Attn: Development Office
136 US Route One
Scarborough, ME 04074

Together, we can share the joy and warmth of this year’s holiday season with the older adults in our communities.

Ps. If you receive our mailings you may have noticed a holiday greeting card enclosed with your letter. Please, don’t keep it! We hope you will use this card to send an isolated senior warm wishes for this holiday season. Simply write a message on the card, send it back with your gift, and SMAA will distribute the greeting card to a homebound Meals on Wheels recipient during the holidays. If you did not receive a card in the mail, you may stop by our main office in Scarborough to pick one up or you may use this printable version (PDF).
