Resource Specialist (Part Time, Town of Yarmouth)

Southern Maine Agency on Aging has an opening for a part-time (16 hours per week) Resource Specialist for the Town of Yarmouth.  This position will be based out of the Merrill Memorial Library in Yarmouth and will meet with older adult town residents and their caregivers and develop and/or monitor support plans that are based on and reflect consumer choice and independence; includes community outreach functions and collaboration with provider organizations serving older adults.  RS will assist with the scheduling of SMAA programs for town residents such as Medicare, falls prevention and caregiver support (per contract). This position will also work closely with the Yarmouth Cares About Neighbors (YCAN) to help residents connect with volunteer based opportunities.  RS will provide home visits to homebound clients as needed.  Work schedule may include occasional evening and/or weekend work to meet community needs.

Education/Knowledge Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Gerontology, or related field
  • Social Work License (preferred)
  • At least two years of community experience in working with older people, adults with disabilities and caregivers with demonstrated knowledge of community resources and benefit programs
  • Understanding and adherence to the concept of client-centered support and assistance
  • Critical thinking skills such analytical and problem solving skills to assess and evaluate situations and needs to resolve issues of varied levels of complexity.
  • Excellent writing, communication, listening and interpersonal skills as RS will interact with a wide variety of staff, consumers, family members, caregivers, community service providers and other agencies.
  • Initiative and sound judgement to work independently and be accountable for accurate and timely service, follow-up, documentation, and reporting.
  • Computer capable and proficient in all traditional office equipment
