What is Money Minders?
The Money Minders Program is sponsored by the Southern Maine Agency on Aging in collaboration with AARP.
The goal of the Money Minders Program is to offer clients sufficient help with financial matters so that they can continue to live independently and worry-free.
The Money Minders Program provides bonded, carefully screened and trained volunteers to give confidential help, but all financial decisions about the handling of a participant's money will be made by the participant.
Participants sign their own checks and retain full control of their bank accounts and other assets.
What We Do
Budget development and implementation. Checkbook balancing. Check writing (all checks are signed by the client). Opening, organizing and sending out mail. Dealing with creditors.
All services are provided in the privacy of the participant's own home.
What We Don't Do
Volunteers do not take control of a participant's finances. Volunteers do not give investment advice. Volunteers do not assume power of attorney. Volunteers do not sign checks
Whom Does The Program Serve?
The Money Minders Program serves elderly and disabled persons in York and Cumberland counties who remain in control of their finances but need some help keeping things in order.
The Program is designed to serve persons who meet the following income and asset guidelines.
No more than:
$25,000 annual income for single individuals. $35,000 annual income for couples. $50,000 in liquid assets.What Does It Cost?
Participants in the Money Minders Program are given the opportunity to make a donation to support the program, but making a donation is not required.
