Health Insurance Counseling

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging offers counseling on health insurance at Medicare Birthday seminars, including Medicare D for residents age 65 and over living in York and Cumberland counties. All of Maine's Agencies on Aging and Legal Services for the Elderly offer this service, working closely with the Maine Bureau of Elder & Adult Services.

How We Can Help

Our staff and Volunteer Medicare Advocates can assist you with decisions and questions about:

  • Medicare
  • Health insurance
  • Supplemental insurance (Medigap)
  • Health insurance paperwork
  • Insurance coverage for care provided in your home or in a nursing home
  • How paying for a nursing home can affect your home and your spouse
  • Information and complaints about insurance agents and companies

Need help sorting out your health care bills or understanding health insurance? Call Southern Maine Agency on Aging at 207-396-6500 in the Portland area or toll-free 1-800-427-7411. Ask to speak with an Elder Advocate.

If you have questions about companies or agents selling health insurance in Maine, call the Bureau of Insurance at 207-624-8475 or toll free: 1-800-300-5000.
