FREE BAGS OF FOOD

A Free Monthly 30 Pound Bag of Food

The US Department of Agriculture is introducing a new program in Maine called the Commodity Supplemental Food Program.

Every month it will provide eligible older people who enroll through SMAA a free 30 pound bag of food such as ready-to-eat cereal, dry beans, canned meat, poultry and tuna, canned fruit and vegetables.

This Information Is for You or Someone You Know

You must be 60 or older.

Your income must be under $1,174 per month for one person; or $1,580 per month for two.

You, or your agent, must be able to pick up the food each month at one of the designated sites. (See list on the right)

The program will start in April, 2010.

If someone else will be picking up your food for you as your proxy, you will need to print out, complete and send in a proxy form as well.
